Ajibade, Okoronkwo Nominated for CAF Women’s Player of the Year

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the nominees for the 2025 CAF Women’s Awards, celebrating the outstanding performers in African women’s football over the past year.

In a statement released on Friday via CAF’s official website, ten nominees were named across key categories including African Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Interclub Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Club of the Year, and National Team of the Year.

Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade and Esther Okoronkwo were both listed among the contenders for the coveted African Player of the Year award. They will face competition from reigning champion Barbara Banda, Portia Boakye, Tabitha Chawinga, Ghizlane Chebbak, Mama Diop, Sanaa Mssoudy, Temwa Chawinga, and Rachael Kundananaji.

Those vying for the Goalkeeper of the Year honour include Chloe Ngazi, Sedilame Boseja, Fideline Ngoy, Habiba Emad, Cynthia Konlan, Fatoumata Karentao, Khadija Er-Rmichi, Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie, Adji Ndiaye, and Andile Dlamini.

For Interclub Player of the Year, the shortlist features Gadny Adiwe Ontlametse, Maungo Maponga, Ami Diallo, Habibou Ouedraogo, Ana Maria Nchama, Sanna Mssoudy, Oumou Kone, Doha El Madani, Bambanani Mbane, and Jamila Rajab.

The Young Player of the Year nominees are Habiba Essam, Habiba Sabry, Stella Nyamekye, Doha El Madani, Shakirat Moshood, Adji Ndiaye, Ester Maseke Marwa, Winfrida Gerald, Mercy Chipasula, and Ruth Mukoma.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons and U17 women’s team also earned nominations for Women’s National Team of the Year, alongside Cameroon U17, Ghana, Ivory Coast U17, Mali, Morocco, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia U17.

Nominees for Coach of the Year include Adelaide Koudougnon, Siaka Gigi Traore, Lamia Boumehdi, Genoveva Anonman, Justine Madugu, Bankole Olowookere, Jorge Vilda, Kim Bjorkegren, Desiree Ellis, and Carol Kanyemba.

The Women’s Club of the Year category features Gaborone United, ASEC Mimosas, TP Mazembe, USFAS Bamako, ASFAR, DE Agosto, Mamelodi Sundowns, Bayelsa Queens FC, Aigles De La Medina, and JKT Queens.

The CAF Awards ceremony, which honours the best of African football, is expected to highlight the growing influence and excellence of women’s football across the continent.
