INEC Records 69,000 Registrations in First 7 Hours of Continuous Voter Registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says over 69,000 Nigerians completed online pre-registration within the first seven hours of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) portal going live on Monday.

According to a statement signed by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the portal opened at 8:30 a.m. and by 3:30 p.m., 69,376 applications had been received.

Of this figure, 33,803 (48.7%) were male and 35,573 (51.3%) were female, while 48,033 (69.2%) were youths aged 18–34. The CVR portal remains accessible 24 hours daily via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org.

In addition to the online process, INEC announced that in-person registration will commence on Monday, August 25, 2025, across its 811 state and local government offices nationwide. The exercise will run on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

“This will enable those who prefer the in-person option to register and for the online pre-registrants to complete their registration. The two options will proceed simultaneously throughout the duration of the CVR,” the statement read.

INEC further disclosed that it will release weekly updates on the exercise, providing detailed breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability.

The commission stressed that registration is strictly for Nigerian citizens aged 18 and above who have not previously registered, warning against double or multiple registrations. It, however, clarified that transfers of voter registration between states or within a state, as well as replacement of lost or damaged voter cards, are permitted during the CVR.
