U-20 World Cup: Argentina Edge Colombia to Set Up Final Clash with Morocco

Argentina will face Morocco in the final of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup after defeating Colombia 1–0 in a tense semi-final encounter on Thursday.

The breakthrough came in the 74th minute, when Mateo Silvetti finished off a brilliant move started by Gianluca Prestianni, who beat his marker on the right and delivered a perfect cross into the box. Colombia’s hopes of a comeback dimmed after a late red card left them a man short at the Estadio Nacional de Santiago.

Despite late pressure, Argentina’s solid defensive display ensured their passage to a record eighth U-20 World Cup final, having already lifted the trophy six times — the most by any nation.

Their opponents, Morocco, made history on Wednesday by reaching their first-ever U-20 World Cup final, becoming only the third African country after Ghana and Nigeria to do so.

The Atlas Cubs sealed their spot after a dramatic 6–5 penalty shootout win over France, following a 1–1 draw that lasted 120 minutes at the Elías Figueroa Brande Stadium.

Morocco took the lead in the 32nd minute through Yassir Zabiri, whose penalty was deflected into the net by French defender Lisandru Olmeta for an own goal. France equalised in the 59th minute with Lucas Michal’s strike, but Morocco held firm to take the game to penalties.

The North Africans converted all six spot-kicks through Younes El Bahraoui, Ilias Boumassaoudi, Yassir Zabiri, Mohamed Hamony, Saad El Haddad, and Byar, while France missed one crucial attempt.

France and Colombia will meet in the third-place play-off on Saturday, October 18, while the grand final between Argentina and Morocco takes place on Monday, October 20.
