The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested Godwin Emeka, a boutique owner, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, after he allegedly excreted 127 wraps of cocaine.

NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said the 52-year-old businessman, who runs boutiques in Lagos and Anambra, was intercepted on October 8 after arriving from Bangkok, Thailand via Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941. A full-body scan revealed he had ingested drugs. Initially, 58 wraps were recovered, followed by 69 more pellets during observation, totaling 1.388 kilograms of cocaine.

Babafemi added that the NDLEA also intercepted multiple illicit drug shipments bound for the UK, Turkey, Australia, and the UAE, including methamphetamine, tramadol, pentazocine, cocaine, and cannabis. Additionally, 27,510 Rohypnol pills were seized at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, destined for South Africa.

Several suspects were arrested across the country in connection with these seizures, including freight agents, drivers, and businesspersons. Operations spanned Edo, Ondo, Osun, Kaduna, Katsina, Rivers, and Niger states.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended operatives for their professionalism and urged continued vigilance in combating drug trafficking, noting the sophisticated methods traffickers use to smuggle narcotics.
